Full Day Fishing: Wrightsville Beach's Hottest Spots

Ready for a real offshore adventure? Grab your sunscreen and join us for a full day of world-class fishing off Wrightsville Beach, NC. We're talking 8 hours of non-stop action, targeting everything from lightning-fast Mahi Mahi to the acrobatic Atlantic Sailfish. This private charter is perfect for serious anglers looking to test their skills or groups wanting to make some unforgettable memories on the water. Trust me, once you've felt that first big hit on your line, you'll be hooked!

What to Expect on the Water

Picture this: You're cruising out past the breakers as the sun starts to climb, the salt spray in your face and the anticipation building. Our experienced crew knows these waters like the back of their hand, so we'll head straight for the most promising spots. We provide all the top-notch gear you'll need, from rods and reels to bait and tackle. Whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time offshore, we'll make sure you're set up for success. And with a max of 4 guests, you'll get plenty of one-on-one attention to hone your technique.

Trolling, Jigging, and More

We'll use a mix of fishing methods to maximize your chances of landing the big one. Trolling is our bread and butter out here - we'll set up a spread of lines and cruise at the perfect speed to entice those pelagic predators. When we spot some good structure or a promising temp break, we might switch it up with some jigging or live bait fishing. Keep an eye on those sonar readings - when we mark a school, it's game on! And don't worry if you're new to these techniques. Our crew will walk you through every step, from setting the drag to fighting that trophy fish all the way to the boat.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Mahi Mahi, or Dolphinfish as they're sometimes called, are the stars of the show out here. These neon-colored speedsters are known for their acrobatic fights and delicious meat. They typically range from 15 to 30 pounds, but we've seen some real monsters push 50+. Mahi love to hang around floating debris and weed lines, so we'll keep our eyes peeled for those telltale signs. They're most abundant from late spring through early fall, but we can find them year-round in the warm Gulf Stream waters.

The Atlantic Sailfish is the holy grail for many anglers visiting Wrightsville Beach. These billfish are pure muscle, capable of blistering runs and jaw-dropping aerial displays. They average 6-8 feet long and can top 100 pounds. Sailfish are seasonal visitors, with the best action typically from May to July and again in the fall. When a sail lights up in that electric blue and purple, trust me, it's a sight you'll never forget. Landing one of these beauties is a true badge of honor in the offshore fishing world.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

There's something special about fishing these waters that keeps folks coming back year after year. Maybe it's the thrill of never knowing what might grab your line next - could be a hard-fighting king mackerel, a tasty grouper, or even a blue marlin if you're lucky. Or maybe it's the breathtaking views of the coastline fading into the distance as we head for the open ocean. For a lot of our regulars, it's the chance to disconnect from the world for a while and just focus on the rhythms of the sea and the company of good friends or family. Whatever your reason, I guarantee you'll leave with some great stories and an itch to get back out there.

Atlantic Sailfish

Atlantic Sailfish are the prize catch many anglers dream about. These speedy fish can reach 10 feet long but usually average 7 feet and 50 pounds. You'll find them in warm, blue waters from the surface down to about 60 feet. They're known for their spectacular aerial displays when hooked, leaping and tail-walking across the water. Winter's the hot time for sailfish here, but we can target them year-round. Anglers love 'em for the intense, acrobatic fight and the stunning photos. We'll usually troll with ballyhoo or squid, or kite fish on calmer days. Here's a local trick: when a sail's hooked, keep the boat moving forward slowly. It helps tire them out faster and keeps the fight on the surface where you want it. Landing a sailfish is an experience you won't forget.

Mahi Mahi or Common Dolphinfish

Mahi Mahi, also called dorado, are a favorite offshore target here. These colorful fish average 15-30 pounds but can reach over 80. You'll find them near floating debris and weed lines, often in groups. They're fast swimmers and strong fighters, known for acrobatic jumps when hooked. Spring through fall is prime time, with summer being the peak. Mahi are prized for both their fight and their delicious white meat. To catch 'em, we'll troll with ballyhoo or squid, or cast lures near floating structure. Pro tip: when you hook one, keep it in the water - others will often follow it to the boat, giving you shots at multiple fish. It's an exciting, fast-paced fishery that's hard to beat on a sunny day offshore.
